To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the UNCRC, we’ve published new lesson plans to help teach children in the foundation phase about their rights.
We’ve also made a brand new childrens’ rights song for schools.
It’s all part of our Bitw Bach project, which has seen us working with schools from across Wales to develop new resources for our youngest learners.
Lesson Plans
This pack includes eight lesson plans and the resources you will need to introduce children’s rights to foundation phase children, top tips for embedding rights in your classroom, a picture pack and a song to support children’s learning.
Throughout the lessons, children will explore the things they need to grow up happy, healthy and safe (their children’s rights). At the end of each lessons children will add a right to their classroom display.

Song – We Stand Together
Each lesson begins with the song “We Stand Together”, this song explores children’s rights and talks about the things children need to grow up happy, healthy and safe. The song was written and composed by Sara Lewis, Dyfan Jones and Year 3 from Creigiau Primary School.
The song is a fantastic opener to each lesson and brings a sense of familiarity for pupils. We suggest singing the song in a circle with your class, with you leading actions (you may want to use Makaton Signs).
Picture Pack
These beautiful illustrations were created by 4 Welsh based artists, to help teach children about their rights, organised under the 4 themes of the UNCRC: Development, Survival, Protection, Participation. These pictures can be used in a number of different ways.
The Bitw Bach project
The Bitw Bach project has been a yearlong pilot scheme; we worked with 13 schools across Wales to shape the lesson plans and resources for Foundation Phase settings.
