Responding to a recent report of Hillview Hospital by HIW, Children’s Commissioner Rocio Cifuentes said:
“Healthcare Inspectorate Wales’ latest inspection report into Hillview shows that there are significant issues impacting the care that young people receive there. And I’m alarmed by the fact that this latest report reflects the same issues that have been raised in previous reports, including insufficient recording and monitoring of restraints, concerns over safe and effective medicines management, the quality and management of individual care plan records, and the need for improvements to governance and audit processes.
“I’ve been in close contact with relevant agencies and I will continue to press for as many details as I can to find out how this can be addressed.
“I think we have to look very honestly at the fact that continued raising of concerns over recent years has not led to significant improvements for young people, and that is not acceptable.
“These are some of the most vulnerable young people in our society and we have to have complete faith in the facilities that are there to care for them.”
