Commissioner responds to Logan Mwangi trial sentencing

30 June 2022

Commenting following the sentencing, Children’s Commissioner for Wales Rocio Cifuentes said:

“This has been a deeply upsetting and harrowing case. Logan was made to suffer by the people who were meant to love and care for him; no child should ever experience what he went through.

“We know that Logan and his family were known to local agencies and that a Child Practice Review is now underway. This investigation will give us a full and clear picture of the involvement he and his family had with those agencies before his death, and whether any opportunities were missed to protect him. It would be inappropriate for me to comment any further on this case in light of this ongoing review, which my team and I will carefully examine upon its publication.

“If you’re worried about a child or have a gut feeling that something isn’t right, please phone your local children’s services department or the NSPCC. My office can also offer advice if you’re not sure what to do about your concerns or where to take them. Our contact details are on our website.
