Commissioner responds to latest IICSA report

2 February 2022

The Children’s Commissioner responded to a report published on 1 February by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.

Children’s Commissioner for Wales Professor Sally Holland said:

“Child sexual exploitation is a form of child sexual abuse and it has no place in our society.

“The issues identified within this report shine a light on the breadth and complexities of harms faced by children and young people who are at risk of this type of exploitation.

“Yet, it also talks about failings around the basics: gathering data; an agreed definition of organised child abuse; and of recognising that this is reality for some of our most vulnerable children.

“I’ll be requesting an update on steps being taken as a result of this report from all police forces and key agencies in Wales. No child should ever experience what these children have been through.”
