Commissioner responds to the Head of Ruthin School’s dismissal

3 February 2020

Professor Sally Holland said:

“I am pleased the Council of Management took decisive action this weekend. The immediate focus now should be on ensuring the critical recommendations from Wales’ inspectorates are acted on without delay; this includes the Council of Management reviewing its own effectiveness.

“What’s most striking about this case is the importance of listening to children and young people. These issues came to light after young people spoke out. I hope they feel they’ve been listened to and that things will change as a result of their bravery.

“I will continue to track progress closely and will press on the Welsh Government to move without delay to ensure relevant regulations are fit for purpose, to ensure every pupil, wherever they’re educated in Wales, are safe.”
