In July, the Welsh Government announced that they will be introducing £1 bus fares for children and young people in Wales from September 2025.
We’ve put some key information about this announcement below.
£1 bus fares for children and young people in Wales – eligibility
- 16-21 year-olds will be eligible for reduced bus fares from September 2025
- Children aged 5-15 will be eligible from November 2025
- Single fares will cost £1 on participating operators while day tickets will cost £3
- Young people aged 16-21 will need a My Travel Pass to claim their low fare

My Travel passes are free and available from the My Travel Pass website.
Commissioner’s response to bus fares announcement
The Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Rocio Cifuentes, welcomed the announcement, noting the calls she has made for free public transport since becoming Children’s Commissioner in 2022.
