Advice for Children and Young People in Wales

Every child and young person in Wales has rights — to be safe, to be listened to, and to get the help they need.

Our Children’s Rights Advice and Assistance Team is here to make sure those rights are upheld.

We offer free, confidential advice to anyone under 18 — and sometimes up to 21 (or 25 if you’ve been in care).

If you’re unhappy with something at school, or have a problem with social services, or where you live, we’re here to help.

What Are Your Rights?

Your rights come from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) — a set of 42 promises that protect all children and young people.

In Wales, the law says Welsh Government must think about children’s rights in everything they do. Councils in Wales must also ask children for their views on issues that affect them.

You have the right to:

  • Be treated fairly and with respect
  • Get an education
  • Feel safe at home, in school, and online
  • Have your views taken seriously
  • Access health care and support

Your Questions Answered (FAQs)

Can I contact you if I’m under 16?
Yes. You can contact us at any age — we’ll explain everything clearly and make sure you feel safe.

Do you tell my parents or school?
No — not unless you want us to or someone’s at risk of harm

Can you help if I’ve left care?
We can usually help you if you’re up to the age of 21 (or 25 if you’re still in education or training)

What if I don’t live in Wales?
