Sally Holland – Background
Sally Holland is a registered social worker with experience in the statutory and voluntary sectors.
Before starting her job as Children’s Commissioner for Wales, she was a Professor at the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University.
During her time at Cardiff University she set up CASCADE Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre.
Sally is originally from Scotland but has lived in Wales since 1992.
She is a keen Welsh learner.
In her first year as Commissioner she asked children and young people from all over Wales to help set the work of her first three-year plan.
This work has included children’s mental health and well-being, anti-bullying strategies, reducing inequality, and improving transitions to adulthood for children with learning disabilities.
She is campaigning for a change in the law so that children are given the same protection from assault as adults, and hopes to see all public bodies in Wales put children’s rights at the heart of their work.
