Commissioner’s response to Baroness Casey report

Commenting on Baroness Casey’s report, Rocio Cifuentes MBE said:

“This report makes for harrowing reading. Behind each statistic in this report, and the many other cases that have gone unreported, is a child failed by the institutions there to protect them.

“Time and again, we’ve heard that issues including lack of information sharing, lack of accurate data, lack of reporting, lack of access to specialist therapeutic support, have allowed children to be exploited and abused. This latest report must mark the end of these serious failings. And while we wait for details on the scope, scale, and timings of the new inquiry, it is vital to remember that there are recommendations from the IICSA inquiry that remain unaddressed, but, if implemented, would help protect children. These must not be lost and must be implemented by governments – we need a lazer-sharp focus on making improvements so that we can be certain all’s being done to protect children. Survivors need to know that those in power are now listening and now taking urgent action.”
