Disproportionate burden

Our website contains over a thousand PDF, Word, and PowerPoint documents. We do not currently have the capacity to fix all historical documents retrospectively but we are making sure that any new documents we publish are as accessible as possible. The section ‘What we’re doing to improve accessibility’ explains what we’re doing about this.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

– Key staff in our team are undertaking a training session on creating accessible documents. This will ensure titles are included correctly in all documents going forward. We will also be updating guidance to external partners who sometimes create documents on our behalf to ensure these partners include titles as well.

– Key staff in our team are undertaking a training session on web accessibility, allowing us to resolve remaining issues.

– We are committed to making sure that reports and resources published on our website since the current Children’s Commissioner started in her role in April 2022 are accessible.

We intend to resolve these issues by September 2024.
