Short Breaks Report Launch

The Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler, is to launch a key piece of work that will examine the short breaks provision in Wales for disabled children and their carers in an event at the Senedd on July 3.

The report intends to examine the impact that short breaks have on the opportunities for disabled children to enjoy their right to play, leisure and recreation. It will look at the range of services provided and the degree to which disabled children and their carers feel these actually meet their needs.

As well as providing support to parent carers and other carers, short breaks have an important role in offering disabled children and young people opportunities to enjoy the rights associated with social activities.

The event is sponsored by Ann Jones AM, Chair of the Children, Young People and Education Committee.

The Deputy Minister for Social Services, Gwenda Thomas AM, will be present at the launch to receive the report.

Date: 3 July 2014
