Plastic Bags

During July the Backchat questions were all about charging for plastic bags and protecting the environment. Here’s a summary of what you told us:

• You all thought it was a good idea to charge for plastic bags

• You told us that plastic bags aren’t good for the environment and it would be good to reduce the number that are used in Wales

• Most of you think the charge should be more than 7p

• Most of you said a charge would stop you using single use carrier bags and encourage you to reuse other bags

• All of you thought that it was a good idea to spend the money raised by charging for plastic bags on environmental projects in Wales

• You all thought recycling was either important or very important

• Most of you told us that you recycled at home and at school 

We asked these Backchat questions because the Welsh Government is thinking about charging people for plastic bags. They wanted to know what people thought about this idea. We used your answers to this round of Backchat questions in our response to the government, and will also use what you had to say in any future work we do about the environment.
